If you’re visiting Shaxi, China, you might notice that there’s a very specific fashion trend for women. To put it simply, you must wear a hat.
Not just any hat. A flouncy, frilly hat with bows is best.
Though if you want to, you can also go for something a bit plainer, maybe a straw hat decorated with a pretty ribbon or some flowers.
Just make sure you can still see!
But maybe you’re not up with the current fashion trends, or you just can’t afford a fancy lacy hat.
Or maybe you just don’t want to draw such attention to yourself. That’s ok. You can wear a low-key straw hat.
Or maybe you really want to make a statement! Maybe you’ll decide to wear two hats!
There are so many to choose from, and I really think your hat must say a lot about who you are, so consider your choice carefully!
But don’t worry, I’m sure it won’t be hard to find the perfect hat for you.
All these pictures were taken on Shaxi’s market day, and I couldn’t help but notice the abundance of these hats. I’d noticed them elsewhere in the region but never so many! Although they’re mostly too frilly for me I still find them fascinating. Aren’t they amazing? I wonder where this trend came from! Have you ever seen anything like this?
